NOVEMBER 21 - Cuzco was once the capital of the Inca. It's now one of the most popular destinations in Peru for tourists on their way to Machu Picchu. We had two days to tour the city's colonial churches, Inca ruins and markets. The two days also gave us a chance to acclimate to the high altitude. Cuzco is one of the world's highest cities at 11,000 feet above sea level. I was surprised by how much impact the altitude had. Shortly after arriving in the city, we experienced dizziness, and even climbing a flight of stairs resulted in shortness of breath.

This is a site called Saqsaywaman. It sounded like "sexy woman" when our guides pronounced it. It was an Inca religious site and fortress.

This is where llamas and young virgin girls were sacrificed.
These girls were in traditional dress carrying baby llamas.

This is Cuzco's Plaza de Armas at night. We did a lot of shopping and eating around this main square.
