July Updates

We've had a busy couple of days. Friday we got out of work early. Yay for summer hours! We walked down the street to The Original Soupman for lunch. You may remember the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. This is his franchise which just opened next to the statehouse. The Original Soupman feels more like a generic chain than it seemed on Seinfeld, but the soup was good. And thankfully we were not told, "No soup for you!"

Friday afternoon, we saw The Dark Knight. It is an awesome movie with some great performances. Definitely not the feel-good movie of the year, but go see it if you haven't already. It is really good.

Saturday we went to the zoo for our company picnic. We didn't run into any of our co-workers, which I guess is not surprising since there are only about 40 of us left. Also we left before the actual picnic because it was so hot. We did get to see my favorites - the otters and bonobos. And we saw underwater turtle sex. I love the zoo.

Saturday night we went to the Lodge Bar to see our new neighbors' band, Stretch Lefty.

Columbus' own Stretch Lefty, who has been playing the Columbus scene for seven years, has finally broken through with their new album, "Universe Box", released on their own independent label, Big Bounce Boombox Records. In addition, world renowned producer Ron Saint Germain (311, Muse, Tool, Bad Brains, The Cure) has partnered up with Stretch and Big Bounce Boombox in this new endeavor.
They were fantastic! They play sort of a funky, hip-hop and reggae style of music. Check them out here or at their CD release party August 23 at Skully's.

Sunday, we had brunch with Rob's 'rents at Banana Bean in German Village. They have delicious Cuban/Jamaican style food. Be sure to make reservations if you decide to go. It's a tiny restaurant, and it's usually packed.

Monday, night we went to a Clippers game with our hockey friends. It's the first time I've been there since the summer I ran their video board. I'm still not a fan of baseball, but it was fun hanging out with our friends. Plus, you can't beat dime-a-dog night. This will probably be our last time visiting Cooper Stadium, since the Clippers are moving to a new downtown stadium in 2009.

Dime-a-dog does indeed rule. I'm still full.
